Dear ,
If only you could see yourself the way I do now.
From this place just a little further down the road, I can tell you: so many of the things that keep you up at night will lose their meaning.
So many of your worries will slip away into the place they came from, like a forgotten song.
I know it’s hard. Doubt, for you, has always been present. Like a static radio station playing in the background of your life—so constant, you forget it’s there.
You forget there’s even an option to tune into something else.
It gets loud, I know it does.
You measure yourself against timelines you never chose, lives you would not want to lead, always wondering if you’re falling behind, if you should have chosen another path, if it’s too late to change your mind.
There never seems to be a clear answer. Not one that sticks, anyway.
Maybe this one can.
I wish I could convince you that everything will work out.
That all your late nights and long hours will pay off. That you’re on the right path, even when you can’t see the road ahead. That even your believed missteps are guiding you forward.
But I know how you feel; the way doubt’s noise can feel more comfortable than silence. The way doubt’s harsh voice can feel more comfortable than praise.
When you’ve listened to it for so long, kindness might start sounding suspicious.
I wish I could convince you to trust what you can’t yet see. But even if I said all this, showed you the proof, would you really believe me?
You might try to hold my words close—but the moment the volume of doubt rises, you’ll forget. And how could you not?
The world has taught you to trust proof, not possibility.
But here’s what I know now:
You don’t need proof that everything will work out.
You only need enough trust to take the next step.
Trust yourself in the steps you’ve already taken.
Let them be your proof.
Sometimes I want to grab you by the shoulders and shake you awake—why can’t you see what I see? Why can’t you see that you are enough?
But I won’t. I’ll treat you with the gentleness you offer so freely to others, but rarely give yourself.
Because that’s what you deserve, how you always should’ve been treated.
The next time doubt gets loud, stay kind. The way you so unfailingly do to others in pain.
When you hear it, place a hand on your stomach.
Take a breath.
Feel the soft rise and fall underneath your hand.
Whisper to yourself:
I can trust myself, even without proof. Everything will work out for me.
You’ll feel that quiet certainty inside you. It’s always there, underneath the static, waiting for you to listen.
Even when you feel lost—especially then—that quiet strength stays with you. You may think you’ve lost it, but it’s the one thing that will never leave you.
It will be there, reminding you that you’re allowed to choose a life that looks different. You are allowed to feel lost, to regret, to wish.
You are allowed to start over.
Even if it means moving back home, being in-between jobs, with less savings than you thought you would have by now.
Whatever the seed of doubt may be, it doesn’t erase the importance of this season of your life. One day, it will all make sense. I promise.
When all else fails, remember all the times you doubted yourself and succeeded anyway.
The moments you proved yourself wrong, took that first shaky step into the unknown—that’s your evidence.
Don’t forecast failure when your history shows resilience.
You have shown bravery, compassion, and strength. You will surprise yourself again and again.
If you’re honest, failure doesn’t really scare you—not in the way you think.
Deep down, you know that failure is a part of truly living. It gives you experience, lessons, proof that you dared to try, a doorway onto a more aligned path.
Failure isn’t as scary when you know that nothing you do can erase that quiet place within you.
That place is yours to return to, day after day.
It will never judge you. Never abandon you.
Doubt can only quiet if you let it. Even if it feels impossible, you can choose to turn it down by tuning into your own light.
So keep going, my love.
Move like everything is going to work out—because it is. You’ve already done the scary thing, and you’ve succeeded, time and time again.
Keep finding what brightens your light: the people who make you feel like a kid again, the bubbles of joy and laughter, the moments that bring you back to presence.
And please, trust your own pace. You are not behind. You never were. You are exactly where you’re meant to be.
I know you struggle to see this, and that’s okay. I’m with you—an invisible hand guiding you forward.
I’ll always be here to remind you you’re enough.
You’ll find me in that quiet place within you, cheering you on, patiently waiting for the day we meet again. The day you finally see yourself the way I do.
Until then, borrow my eyes.
with love,
your future self

I LOVE this! So beatiful.
Your letter made me realise courage isn't the absence of doubt, but continuing to walk while it's still talking. X
