The way you wrote this made me forget I was reading about age and made me think about how often we put an expiry date on ourselves. Loved this perspective.
we’re in this together! i really think that as long as we’re curious and putting ourselves out there, doors will open. rooting for you in this season of uncertainty! you are enough 💌
Wow… Sofia this is so good!!! So much of this resonated with me and such a good reminder as I’m a month and a half away from my 32nd birthday and have been feeling that sense of what do I have to show for it or what should I have accomplished by now. This was the perfect perspective shift and so liberating to read 🤍
I especially love this line “looking back, i know i was chasing something impossible—not love, but someone who would finally allow me to start living.”
Thank you for this and your vulnerability in writing it !!! 💌
Society has done such a disservice to us, especially woman with having multiple “clocks” running all the time. I actually wrote about it in my newest article if anyone is interested 🤍
this was such a beautiful reminder 🥹 28 is also creeping up on me and I can feel the temptation to fall into the trap of measuring myself up against some picture of what my life should be like, that is not my own. thank you as always for somehow sharing the words I didn’t know I needed. Keep writing, keep sharing your heart. Because as much as it is healing you in the process, it is also touching all of our lives too ✨
So eloquently put- the Elena and Damon mention especially ;) ps- I think all of us navigating our twenties pushed up against the weight of the timeline of what our parents generation had (etc- work the same job for 45 years) is so wildly out of touch now with the insanity of the world and the speed at which stupid EVIL AI is changing everything on its head.
Omg, how I understand that. I turned 28 a month ago, and even though I probably did more at 27 than I had in the previous four years put together, I still felt this constant urgency. Recently, I realized I was unconsciously carrying this to-do list: job, marriage, house, children... basically the life my family lived. Some part of me thought choosing differently meant I didn't value or respect their choices. Rationally, I knew that wasn't true. Apparently my emotional side needed a little longer to catch up. Once it did, I felt so much lighter. I still stress about work and money, but letting go of the pressure to figure out my whole life gave me a little more permission to actually live it. 🩷💚
This is such a beautiful perspective. We sometimes tend to measure our life through metrics but we need embrace the space of just living with no urgency❤️
"you will never stop aging. until you do." This line cut deep. What a beautiful, personal yet relatable piece. We're all told to measure our unique lives by the same "achievements" and mark our lives by the passing of time, not by the living we've done - as you put it so brilliantly. Thank you for sharing ❤️
This is such an empowering look at age, from something to dread to a tally of the experiences we've had! Holy crap, I think I was unintentionally doing this throughout 9th grade last year meeting cool girls, getting thru late-night study sessions, reading, and talking with friends! It's literally everything you described in this wonderful piece :D I honestly like to see age as something that's ENCOURAGING like yes, I'm gonna have even more brilliant, crazy life experiences rather than something to dismiss! So glad you captured that in this awesome note
Best of luck on your work and writing situation Sofia! :D

wow, what a compliment! thank you, anaya 💌 here’s to challenging that expiration date!
Can relate so much to this!! Fantastic essay as always.
thank you for everything 💛
I love this
such an honor. thank you for reading 💌
I’m 27 and I still feel like a teenager. Even if things are uncertain right now, I’m hopeful an opportunity will come my way!

Thank you for writing this. It’s the kind of reminder that makes you put the phone down and actually look around for a second. Fuck age indeed.

Amazing piece girl 🫶🏻 age literally tells us nothing but the number of days we’ve been on this earth!
This is such a beautiful perspective. We sometimes tend to measure our life through metrics but we need embrace the space of just living with no urgency❤️
Ahhhhh yes yes yes, THIS!!!:
"i stopped chasing love.
i had learned that the thing i’d been searching for all my adolescent life could be found, just not in the place i thought.
that feeling; it wasn’t a person. it wasn’t a magical guy who would finally open the world up to me.
it wasn’t a city that would finally feel like home, with dreams and thrills embodied.
it was living."
